On this teaching program, in the beautiful setting of Pejeng you will have the opportunity to teach children a variety of subjects in English. The week will consist of preparing lessons with the help of the staff at a local school and teaching the students there. The subject matter and the lesson plans could follow the prescribed syllabus. You would be teaching the students on your own or with the other participants on the program and at the same time experience a different lifestyle.
- Teach English to children in the beautiful country of Bali
- Decide what syllabus to teach or follow
- Create your own classes from topics including: art, sport and music
- Inspire young minds that are bursting with enthusiasm
To book an activity with us we require you to participate for a minimum of two weeks. Therefore, you would need to book a quantity of two for this activity, unless you choose a separate activity to go with it. See the ‘Related trips…’ section for more options.
Program Description
With Bali’s rapidly expanding tourism industry, the demand for local English speakers has never been greater. Children may have the opportunity to learn English at school, however this is usually taught by a local Balinese teacher and thus the children never really get to practice their conversational skills or hear native English speakers. Balinese children are extremely eager to learn and are an absolute joy to teach. On this project, you will be spending about one to two hours each morning preparing lessons and around three hours in the afternoon teaching at a local elementary or high school.
It is entirely up to you what you decide to teach, however there is a general syllabus for you to follow and examples of what previous participants have taught for you to continue with. The aim of this project is to show students that learning English is fun and you are always encouraged to be creative with your methods of teaching – through games, songs, art, sport and music. If you are new to teaching, you may wish to team up with other fellow participants, as two to three teachers in the classroom often works well with regard to confidence building and gaining greater control of the class whose enthusiasm often spills over into great excitement! Your role is to encourage and inspire, but most importantly for teachers and students alike to enjoy the experience.
CRB/DBS (Criminal Records Bureau) Check
It is required that participants complete a CRB/DBS (Criminal Records Bureau) check in order to take part in this project.
Start dates are every week of the year with your activities starting on a Monday. We therefore request you arrive anytime on the Sunday before to receive a free airport pick-up and transfer. Early or late arrivals will incur an additional charge for the transfer and extra night including food, so arriving on the Sunday will be your better option.
Your trip will finish on the Saturday morning when you will need to vacate the accommodation.
Aims & Objectives
We have all experienced good and not so good teachers and through our project we strive to achieve the infectious enthusiasm of good teachers, specifically aiming to:
- Ignite the fuse of lifelong learning
- Enthusiastically encourage and inspire children
- Ensure each child is confident and is able to articulate in both spoken and written English
- Teach games and songs, showing that learning can be fun
- Design creative methods of teaching and make effective lesson plans
- Most importantly for teachers and students alike to enjoy the experience
