This is an Add-On experience. The Culture Week can only be booked alongside a main trip in Lovina, Bali, and is added to your order when you book your main trip. It runs during the first week of your stay and adds one week to your overall trip.
Why Add a Culture Week?
Bali’s culture is everywhere you look: in the woven palm-leaf offerings on every doorstep, the incense drifting from family temples and the village ceremonies that spill into the streets. The Culture Week opens all of that up to you. Rather than spending your first few days finding your feet, you’ll spend them exploring, learning and laughing with fellow travellers, guided by a local team who know North Bali inside out.
By the time your main trip starts the following Monday, you’ll know your way around Lovina, have some useful Bahasa phrases, understand the customs that shape daily life and feel ready to make the most of your time, whether you’re coaching sport, teaching, supporting conservation or simply exploring.
About Lovina
Lovina sits on Bali’s quieter north coast, a peaceful stretch of black-sand beaches about 9 km west of Singaraja, with the forested mountains rising behind. It is famous for dawn dolphin-watching, waterfalls, coral reefs and hot springs, and offers a more authentic, unhurried side of Bali than the busy southern resorts.
Your Culture Week
Over five days you’ll learn about Bali through a mix of classes, excursions and hands-on experiences:
- Village walk and traditional market: explore the centre of Lovina and its lively local market, then learn about the beliefs, customs and traditions that underpin Balinese life
- Bahasa Indonesia lessons: two language classes give you the everyday phrases to say hello, order food, haggle at the market and connect with the people you meet
- Flower offering class: learn how to craft canang sari, the small palm-leaf baskets of flowers and incense placed as daily offerings across the island, and what they mean
- Balinese cooking class: roll up your sleeves and learn to cook traditional Balinese dishes, then enjoy the results
- Brahma Vihara Arama: visit Bali’s largest Buddhist monastery, a peaceful hillside complex of gardens, stupas and shrines that blends Buddhist and Balinese Hindu styles, where you may be able to place your own offering
- Holy hot springs: relax in natural, mineral-rich spring water flowing through carved stone spouts into tranquil pools surrounded by tropical gardens
- School visit and project briefing: finish the week with a visit to a local school in Lovina and a meeting with the local team to prepare for your main trip

How It Fits With Your Main Trip
You arrive on the Sunday as normal, spend Monday to Friday on the Culture Week and enjoy a free weekend in Lovina. Your main trip then starts on the following Monday. For example, booking a four-week main trip with the Culture Week gives you five weeks in Bali in total.
The Culture Week runs every week, all year round. It always takes place in the first week of your stay: arrive on a Sunday, take part Monday to Friday, then start your main trip the following Monday. Simply choose the same Sunday arrival date as your main trip when booking.
Fitness
This is an active week with plenty of walking and time outdoors in the heat, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed.
What to Wear
Bali is welcoming but conservative, especially at temples, schools and in villages. Wear loose, lightweight clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, and avoid anything too short, tight or revealing, or printed with slogans or images that could cause offence. When visiting temples a sarong and sash must be worn. By Balinese custom, women who are menstruating do not enter temple grounds, and alternative arrangements can be made on the day.
What to Pack
- Comfortable walking shoes and sandals that slip on and off easily
- A hat, sunglasses and reef-safe, high-factor sunscreen
- Insect repellent
- A refillable water bottle (filtered water refills are free at the centre)
