Extraordinary kindergarten teaching project in Goa
The kindergarten project in Goa offers education in English to children aged between 4 and 13 years old. The children are predominantly from underprivileged communities that don’t have access to electricity or sanitation.
It’s been an amazing experience being around the kids and interacting with them.
Kindergarten teaching in Goa
At the project we brought lunch for everyone, and eat with the children, usually after around 2 hours of class time. In addition to all of this, the coordinators pick up every single one of the children in the morning and take them back in the afternoon. After class the coordinators and volunteers drive the kids home- seeing how others live was humbling and had a huge impact on me.This whole journey has taught me a lot about Indian culture and how some families live. It’s important for these communities to be able to speak English because of the huge diversity of Indian languages throughout the country.
The project really showed me the importance of knowledge and education for these kids and I would love to come back to be able to see their growth and progress. The kindergarten teaching project was an amazing experience and, being around the kids and interacting with them, I recommend this project to anyone that wants to make an impact on these children’s lives and gain invaluable teaching experience.
Outreach schools
In the afternoons we would travel to an outreach village that had an outdoor shelter area used for teaching and learning by the volunteers. Our coordinators came with us as we embarked on the invaluable experience of teaching children who have the most incredible desire to learn. By engaging with us, as volunteers, we were able to quickly understand what aspects of learning they enjoyed the most and work creatively to find fun solutions to a range of subjects including maths and English.
The kids were all incredibly happy to have someone to talk to and tell their stories too. It was an enjoyable and humbling experience; the people were incredibly friendly. Due to the range in ages there was a large difference in the learning ability of all the children but everyone enjoyed participating in the games and activities we offered them. The experience of teaching the children was fun and creative – I recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys putting a smile on someone else’s face.
