Christmas Gift Giving in the Philippines
Christmas gift giving to schools and nurseries in the Philippines, spreading joy to local children throughout the festive season! Christmas is the most celebrated holiday in the Philippines as the majority of the population is Catholic. This time of year is a period where families often come together, celebrate Santa Claus, perform carolling and exchange gifts and cards. This jovial time of year is full of love and laughter however many poverty stricken families are unable to buy basic gifts for their children.
2019 Christmas Gift Giving!
As part of my 2 week long school teaching volunteer placement, I was in the organisation and delivering of the annual Christmas Gift Giving. A yearly tradition to make the kids feel the essence of Christmas, bring joy and see smiles on the kid’s faces.
Many of the gifts given to the children we had purchased ourselves from the money we had fundraised prior to completing the volunteer placement. Other gifts were donations which we managed to collect from the local towns and businesses.
12th of December was the day where staff and participants became Santa for 3 nursery schools and 5 different public schools with the total of 1,100 kids. A lot of candies, chocolates, cookies, toys for boys and different accessories for the girls were inside their Christmas gift bags.
At each gift giving ceremony, children would be invited to meet the volunteers, introduce their names and tell us what they love most about Christmas! Following on from that, we that delivered a short Christmas quiz where there were prizes up for grabs! Before we left, staff and participants performed a dance (jingle bells) for the kids and encouraged them to join us up on the stage for a mid-afternoon boogie!
The Christmas Gift Giving 2019 was a roaring success and made the Christmas period for many children that little bit more memorable. We are eternally grateful to those who donated to the project and made this goodwill activity possible! Seeing the delighted faces of the kids and how thankful they are was one of the most precious moments for us.
