Volunteers will have the choice between staying in our volunteer accommodation or homestay with a local family.

The volunteer accommodation is modest and volunteers share a bed room with up to three other volunteers. There is electricity generated by solar panels and while able to power lights and phone chargers it is not powerful enough for any other appliances. There are proper sanitation facilities and showers. Experienced kitchen staff prepare local delicacies; often a curry like sauce based meal for dinner with meat, rice and salad, special diets can be catered for. A night watchman is onsite as an extra precaution.

Volunteers are encouraged to take a mobile phone and buy a sim card in Tanzania as a safety measure.

The nearest health centre is in the village and hospital is in Moshi 16km away. Internet is available for emergency emails onsite and general use in Moshi.

Volunteers on homestay should contact us for details as these are arranged on a case by case basis. These will typically be in for one volunteer at a time but will be in walking distance of the volunteer accommodation where you can enjoy the same support received by volunteers staying onsite.

Those wishing to be placed at the orphanage in Hedaru should also contact us directly.
