You are going to get excellent support from two Changing Worlds representatives who live and work in Canavieiras.

Their names are Luciene and Riccardo.

Riccardo is a married man – he comes from Italy and has married a local girl. They have a child. Riccardo is teaching at the centre. Riccardo loves British music – new wave music is his big thing!

Luciene is a local girl and is a secretary.

They both speak good English and both are very keen to learn more. They both carry mobile phones with them at all times

They will pick you up from Ilhues – the local airport. This about 110 kilometres from Canavieiras and is connected by a good road.

You will enjoy an orientation on arrival to the town. They will point out the shops, banks, post office, internet cafes, and best places to eat and, of course, the beach!

We suggest you bring an old mobile phone from home and buy a SIM card on arrival. Make sure your phone is unblocked before you leave home. The SIM card will cost you around £10 – go ‘Pay as you go’ thereafter. Having a mobile will mean you can keep in touch with your reps and your new found friends…Brazilians love their mobile phones!

There are public telephones in Canavieiras and this is probably the best way to keep in contact with loved ones at home. You can buy an international phone card from the post office that acts on credit. You can top it up as you go.

The internet in town is cheap and reliable. It is possible to gain access every day should you need to. The catering centre where you will be living will have a computer network and there are plans to have internet access from there. Internet costs from town are cheap at less than a £1 an hour.
